Neurological Associates launches Mid Ohio EMG Center

Columbus, OH – Neurological Associates, Central Ohio’s oldest and most comprehensive neuroscience physician group practice, has launched the Mid Ohio EMG Center.  The center, headed by medical director Dr. William Mayr, is focused on providing accurate and high quality EMG (electromyography) tests, an important tool in diagnosing neurological conditions.

“We often saw patients coming in for their first appointments with inaccurate EMG results or results that did not address the patients’ problems.  This Center underscores the importance of combining high quality testing with proper neurological evaluation before the EMG, so that each test can be customized to the patient’s specific needs,” said Mayr.

According to Dr. Mayr, an EMG test measures the electrical activity of the nerves and muscles and can help detect neurological problems such as numbness, muscle spasms, pain, weak muscles or paralysis.

Neurological Associates has been performing EMGs since 1974 and conducts about 1,500 EMG tests per year. Dr. Mayr is a specialist in EMGs and was fellowship trained in clinical neurophysiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

According to Dr. Mayr, the Mid Ohio EMG Center at Neurological Associates is unique in that neurologists perform the tests and analyze the results.  In addition, each EMG is customized to address each patient’s specific set of symptoms.

“Before performing an EMG on a patient, we will conduct a complete neurological examination. Armed with this background and neurological expertise, we are uniquely capable of making accurate assessments of the EMG results and recommending a treatment plan for patients after the test.  Our focus is the patient’s overall neurological health –high quality EMG coupled with neurological expertise is vital to achieving this goal,” said Mayr.

The Mid Ohio EMG Center will operate out of Neurological Associates’ offices in Upper Arlington.

The oldest and most complete neuroscience practice in Central Ohio, Neurological Associates was founded in 1929.  The physician practice offers services in neurology, neurosurgery, neurodiagnostic testing, and programs for lower back pain, pain management, sleep disorders, physical therapy, spine physiatry and an office infusion center.
